Fire breaks out on Battersea Rise
Around 60 firefighters are tackling a fire that has broken out at The Goat on Battersea Rise.
Battersea Rise is closed to traffic at the Northcote Road junction while the London Fire Brigade continue to tackle the blaze (Wednesday August 4).
Nicola Rossall, manager at nearby Northcote Pub saw the emergency services arrive at around 1:15pm.
"It was really big," she said of the blaze at its height. "Our owner Nicky made the call. She lives upstairs and saw it from her window."
In an update detailing their efforts at the scene, London Fire Brigade (LFB) said around 12.53pm they received over a dozen calls to the fire at The Goat.
Nick Gardiner and his son, customers at The Northcote, witnessed the incident as it unfolded today (Wednesday August 4). "I was just walking down the road and suddenly saw the smoke.
"This was around 40 minutes ago."
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters have been called to a pub fire on Battersea Rise in Battersea.
"Half of the roof is currently alight.
"The Brigade's 999 Control Officers have taken 18 calls to the blaze.
"The Brigade was called at 1253. Fire crews from Clapham, Wandsworth, Tooting, Brixton and Fulham fire stations are at the scene.
"The cause of the fire is not known at this time."
