Heavy rain floods roads around Clapham and Battersea

A key route for drivers travelling between Clapham and Battersea is closed as heavy downpours and thunderstorms have left it flooded.

Two vehicles are stuck in floodwater on Latchmere Road after their drivers underestimated the depth of the water. Meanwhile moped drivers use pedestrian walkways to reach their destinations via this critical route.

At around 3.00pm Wandsworth Police tweeted: "Due to heavy rain some parts of the borough is currently dealing with, please remember to drive carefully.

"Also remember that you're not driving a submarine. Do not enter what could possibly be deep water."

The Independent is reporting that roads around Clapham Common resemble rivers and the London Fire Brigade has taken around 300 calls this afternoon, most related to flooded basements or roads.
