Teenager charged following loaded firearm discovered in Lambeth stop and search
A teenager has been charged after a stop and search by patrolling officers on Lambeth's Coldharbour Lane last week uncovered a loaded firearm.
A statement released by the Met today said on Wednesday August 25 "officers on patrol recovered a loaded firearm in Coldharbour Lane, Lambeth".
The 17-year-old boy from Newham, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged on Thursday August 26 with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of ammunition.
He appeared in custody at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Friday August 27 where he was remanded in custody to appear at Woolwich Crown Court on Friday September 10.
Coldharbour Police on Twitter today said: "It is sad that a young man from a local estate on the ward ended up in these circumstances but this police work may well have saved another young person's life."
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "A teenager has been charged after officers on patrol recovered a loaded firearm in Coldharbour Lane, Lambeth, on Wednesday, 25 August following a stop and search.
"A 17-year-old boy from Newham, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged on Thursday, 26 August with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of ammunition.
"He appeared in custody at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Friday, August 27 where he was remanded in custody to appear at Woolwich Crown Court on Friday, September 10."
The investigation is being led by officers from the Met's Specialist Crime Command.
