Train at Clapham Junction catches fire
Clapham Junction announced severe delays to services yesterday after a train at platform 15 caught fire.
Passengers were evacuated and the London Fire Brigade called to Clapham Junction at around 12.30pm on June 15 as a picture shared on Twitter showed smoke coming from a train which had stopped underneath the over bridge.
This blocked some lines and caused multiple cancellations and delays while London Fire Brigade tackled the fire.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade confirmed engines from Clapham and Chelsea Fire Stations were in attendance.
They said: "Firefighters were called to reports of a fire under a train carriage at Clapham Junction station at 12:39pm. Crews tackled a small fire under one carriage of an eight carriage train at platform 15. There were no reports of any injuries."
The British Transport Police confirmed there were no injuries and in a statement posted on Twitter commended the work of London Fire Brigade for having dealt with the incident in a "quick" and "proactive" manner.
Affected Routes included those between: Bognor Regis, Dorking, East Grinstead, Epsom, Epsom Downs, Horsham, Littlehampton, Reigate, West Croydon, Southampton Central, Ore and London Victoria.
