Clapham: Arrest made after reports of a man asking children obscene sexual questions

Wandsworth police have arrested a man for attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

Local police officers received reports that a man was approaching children in Wandsworth Park asking offensive and obscene sexual questions yesterday (Thursday, October 7).

Officers were deployed throughout the park and identified a man who matched the description they were given. After speaking with the informant, police arrested the suspected male for the offence.

He remains in custody and investigations are ongoing.

A spokesperson for Wandsworth police said: "On Thursday the 7th October 2021 police received a call about a male in Wandsworth Park approaching children with offensive and obscene sexual questions.

"PS Haddouche, PC Smith, PC Willmott and PC Lawrence answered the call and attended Wandsworth Park shortly after.

"Using local knowledge of the park, officers deployed in various throughways and identified a male matching the description.

"Officers spoke to the informant who relayed the details of the incident to police.

"The suspected male was arrested for the offence of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

"The male remains in custody and investigation remains ongoing."
