Clapham Breakfast Briefing: Friday, October 1

Clapham Breakfast Briefing is a daily column dedicated to morning 'must-knows' from around town and other useful tid bits: weather, traffic, travel and trivia news in a nutshell.

Clapham weather forecast

And just like that, it's October - with the rain and shorter days to prove it. Though waking up to rain in the early morning is never a thrilling experience, there is always good weather news to find (if you know where to look for it).

Today you won't need to look that far. With the rain clearing throughout the morning, by midday conditions should be ripe for a lunchtime dog walk on Clapham Common - just be sure to time it well, as thick cloud is set to drop around 2pm. Once that's out of the way, we can all look forward to a dry, bright and increasingly sunny afternoon.

Clapham Traffic

Reporting from Clapham petrol stations yesterday afternoon, we noticed some fuel with less fire at forecourts around town. According to AA's traffic news, the petrol queues we have seen causing solid traffic on Nightingale Lane to Clapham South tube station have evaporated. Likewise over on Clapham Common North Side, traffic is flowing decently, save for the fairly typical congestion on Battersea Rise.

Clapham Junction

09:07 to London Victoria - Delayed (with the train last reported at Pulborough and it's stop at East Croydon cancelled)

09:36 to London Victoria - Delayed until 10:09

09:46 to Reigate - Delayed

10:06 to London Victoria - Cancelled

10:38 to London Victoria - Cancelled

Other trains will be running as normally to London Victoria from Clapham Junction irrespective of these individual disruptions.

The Northern Line

There is a good service currently operating on the Northern Line. For onwards travel, a signal failure at Notting Hill Gate is causing severe delays to the Circle Line and District Line services (between Edgeware Road and Wimbledon).

What's Happening in Clapham

Head to our What's On page to see the incredible line-up of theatre, comedy and family & children's shows coming up as part of The Bread & Roses Theatre's Clapham Fringe.

Much like Edinburgh Fringe, our version here in south west London is brimming with performances, often with running times no longer than 60 minutes and reasonably priced tickets that make a short burst of culture an accessible experience. If you want to do as they do in the Burgh, before dinner this evening or after lunch tomorrow, wander down Clapham Manor Street and catch one or other of Follow The Lines, Mrs Green, Paperboy or Dinner Theatre.

Fact of the day

Clapham Junction is the name of a prehistoric site on the island of Malta, which the Maltese still consider a source of mystique and power. It is reported that an English explorer named the site because the marks on the rocks reminded him of the London station.
