A local charity is looking for a new Chairman to lead its Board of Trustees.

Royal Trinity Hospice provides free specialist palliative and end of life care for people living in Wandsworth and neighbouring boroughs.

Founded in 1891, it is the oldest hospice in the UK and from its base on Clapham Common North Side, supports around 2,500 people every year.

With ultimate responsibility for the strategic decisions made by Royal Trinity Hospice, the Board of Trustees works closely with the charity's Chief Executive and the Executive Team to monitor its direction, performance and risk.

The thirteen trustees, who receive no remuneration for their services, hail from a variety of professional backgrounds and usually serve for a maximum of six years.

Outgoing Chair of Royal Trinity Hospice, Adrian Williams, supported the charity for many years before becoming a trustee in 2014.

He said: "Trinity has a strong platform combining high quality care, strong stakeholder relationships with our CCG and ICS partners, successful retail and fundraising operations, caring and expert staff, a great executive team, a supportive and engaged board and a stable financial position.

"However, we have much still to do. We have a detailed plan to expand our services to reach 50% more people by 2030, because our community is living longer, which means more demand and more complex care needs. 75% of us will need some sort of specialist palliative care at the end of life and the number of people who die with dementia & cancer will double by 2040 – so Trinity's work will be even more vital than ever.

"Our challenge is to expand our reach and impact while maintaining our high service quality and financial resilience. As our successful candidate you will have the attributes to lead the charity during one of the most exciting periods in its long history."
