Man shot dead in Balham
A murder investigation has been launched after a man was shot dead on a residential street in Balham.
The Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service were called to reports of a man with gunshot injuries in Bedford Hill shortly before 11pm last night (Thursday 17 June).
The man, believed to be in his 20s, was rushed to hospital but pronounced dead nearly 40 minutes after emergency services were called.
His next of kin have been informed.
Police remain at the scene this morning (Friday 18 June) as they carry out their enquiries.
A police spokesperson said: "Police were called at approximately 10.50pm on Thursday, 17 June to reports of a man suffering gunshot injuries in Bedford Hill, SW12.
"Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and the man, believed aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital for treatment; despite the best efforts of the emergency services he was pronounced dead at 23:36hrs.
"Next of kin have been informed.
"A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.
"Enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing and there have been no arrests.
"At this early stage, anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or tweet @MetCC and quote CAD8915/17June. Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
Wandsworth Police tweeted: "Were you in the Bedford Hill area of #Balham shortly before 11pm last night?
"Detectives need to speak with anyone who has information following a fatal shooting."
