An elderly protestor remains at the top of the crane in Battersea he climbed to early this morning.

Met police closed the roads around Nine Elms Lane and have attempted to talk the 69-year-old protestor down from the crane since they arrived at the scene at 4am on Tuesday 15 June.

Clapham Nub News shared news road closures would disrupt travel around Nine Elms, Battersea and Clapham this morning.

It has now emerged the man is a pro-Palestine protestor who according to a pro-Palestine activist account on Twitter, climbed the crane as a "death death-defying daredevil act of solidarity for Palestine".

He is reportedly planning to remain up the crane, overlooking Battersea, Clapham and Vauxhall Bridge, for days.

A Met police spokesperson has said: "Our priority is the man's safety and officers are attempting to speak to him. As yet, he has not engaged with any of the officers on the ground."

The crane is part of the One Nine Elms construction project near Battersea Park.

Roads around Nine Elms Lane remain closed and disruption throughout Battersea and Clapham is expected to continue.
