Coronavirus cases rise sharply in Clapham

Coronavirus cases have risen sharply in Clapham and across the boroughs of both Wandsworth and Lambeth, which it straddles.

The latest batch of data published by Public Health England (PHE) reports virus infections in Clapham Common North increased by 425 per cent in the week up to June 5.

While this same period of time saw no new cases of Covid-19 recorded in Clapham North, there was a 400 per cent rise in neighbouring Clapham Old Town.

Clapham Junction & East Hill and Clapham South each recorded seven new cases, and there were eight new Covid-19 infections in Nightingale Lane.

Clapham Common West has seen cases double over the same period.

The 'Delta' variant of coronavirus first recorded in India is now believed to be the dominant strain in the UK.

Councils in Wandsworth and Lambeth continue to advise caution.
