Delays between Clapham Junction and Balham as person hit by train

Incident on train tracks between Balham and Clapham Junction

A person has been hit by a train between Balham and Clapham Junction.

Southern Rail UK reported the incident on Twitter at around 10.10am. It wrote: "It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between Balham and Clapham Junction.

"All are blocked between these stations whilst the emergency services work to deal with this incident. Service information will follow."

Some lines between Balham and Clapham Junction have since reopened, however Southern has said the full train service will not resume for some time.

It added: "We're unable to call at Wandsworth Common until further notice."

The operator has pleaded for customers to consider delaying their travels until later today. If travelling is necessary, it said journey time is likely to take "considerably longer" than usual.

Update: Thursday July 29, 13:00

In the latest update from Southern Rail on Twitter the operator confirmed all lines are now open.

It wrote: "All lines between Balham and Clapham Junction have now reopened.

"Trains will still be cancelled, delayed or altered whilst we work to get services back to normal.

"If you're not able to delay travelling until later this afternoon, please check before heading to the station."
