Two adults and four children escaped from a house on fire in Clapham last night (Sunday, February 6).

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to the mid-terraced house on Kyrle Road shortly after 7:30pm.

The family of six escaped the building without injury before the Brigade arrived.

By 9:49pm firefighters from Clapham, Battersea, Wandsworth and Tooting fire stations had the fire under control.

The London Fire Brigades said the fire damaged most of the loft conversion of the house.

Investigators believe the blaze was caused by combustible items being too close to a heat source.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a house fire on Kyrle Road in Clapham.

"Most of the loft conversion of a mid-terraced house was damaged by fire. Two adults and four children left the building before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.

"The Brigade was called at 1937 and the fire was under control by 2149. Fire crews from Battersea, Tooting, Clapham and Wandsworth fire stations attended the scene.

"The fire is believed to have been caused by combustible items too close to a heat source."
