More than 90 per cent of Covid patients requiring the most specialist care have not been vaccinated, according to data published by The Times on Saturday (December 4).

Intensive care clinicians from across England told the national newspaper of their anger at being unable to treat seriously ill patients at a life-saving stage of intervention – some transplant operations cannot go ahead and complex cancer surgeries are being delayed, risking tumours becoming inoperable.

In total 46.5 million people in the UK have received two doses of Covid-19 vaccine, equivalent to 80 per cent of the population.

Vaccination uptake among Lambeth and Wandsworth residents is lower than this national average – as of Thursday, 59 per cent of Lambeth residents had received two doses and 63 per cent of Wandsworth residents had been fully vaccinated.

Wandsworth Councillor Clare Salier urged residents who are eligible to receive both doses and their booster to do so after the new Omicron variant was detected in Wandsworth last week.

Cllr Salier said: "Get vaccinated – first dose, second dose, booster. Wear a face covering on public transport, shops, and crowded places. Isolate immediately and get a PCR test if you have COVID 19 symptoms.
