Northcote Road is welcoming another new addition this autumn, with colourful, tropical bowls soon to summon a summertime feeling.

Hot on the heels of cult Australian skincare brand Asop opening on Northcote Road and gourmet delicatessen Colette Cuisine comes new restaurant Island Poké.

Island Poké was founded by James Porter who first got a taste of poké during childhood summers spent in Hawai'i.

Poké, which means "to slice or cut" in Hawaiian, is a dish based around raw, cubed fish – typically Ahi or Yellowfin tuna – that's tossed over sticky rice, colourful veggies and topped off with fresh garnish.

Spotting a gap in the London lunch market for this native Hawaiian dish, Porter started selling fresh, healthy bowls packed with flavours at a street food market.

A loyal following fast amassed and Island Poké was born, with the first restaurant opening in Soho's Kingly Court in 2016.

Island Poké has only grown in popularity since then and now has branches across London – 15 to be exact.

The popular lunch spot caters for everyone, with Island Poké even developing Europe's first ever vegan poké dish.

With climate change (hopefully) being at the forefront of everyone's mind, it is encouraging to know that this latest addition to Northcote Road puts sustainability at the heart of what they do.

There is no exact date for the opening of Island Poké, but be sure to cast your vote on whether Northcote Road is in Clapham or Battersea on its Instagram page (#teamclapham!).
