Permablitz to launch Battersea Arts Centre Community Garden

Local residents are invited to join the permablitz launching the Battersea Arts Centre Community Garden this Sunday (October 17).

Battersea Arts Centre created the garden to thank the local community for all their help after the fire suffered in 2015.

The garden has been designed with this spirit of generosity in mind - it aims to create a co-operative gardening community of people, plants and animals, including the microscopic life in the soil, in which all contribute and all benefit.

For anyone a little unclear on what a permablitz is, it's when a group of people meet for the day to develop an edible, wildlife-friendly garden. They often create community gardens, but a permablitz can also be for a household and can involve sustainable non-food growing projects, such as making compost toilets or retro-fits of existing homes.

The day will involve planting a variety of edible, decorative, wildlife friendly, pollution-busting plants and bulbs.

There will also be mini-workshops throughout the day that explain the permaculture design, green manures and the benefits of planting flowering bulbs.

Lunch will be provided and there are activities for all to enjoy, including children.

The event is free but booking is essential. Email [email protected].

More details on the event can be found here.
