Pret A Manger opens Balham branch

Pret A Manger fans who live in Clapham South have a fair way to walk for their Tuna Melt Toasties.

When the craving's hit, your options have been a 20-minute walk across Clapham Common to the Pavement branch or a 23 minute mosey along Northcote Road to Pret in Clapham Junction.

Now Pret A Manger has opened its doors to customers in Balham, there is a third, faster route for Clapham South to get hold of their Christmas sarnies.

The coffee and sandwich chain has replaced the former Santander on 200 Balham High Road, with the bank having closed its doors back in June.

Located near Balham tube and railway station, it will join a number of coffee shops near the station, such as Marcus Balham, AMT Coffee, The Apple Blue and other well-known chains like Costa Coffee and Cafe Nero.

There's been a mixed response on social media to the arrival of the new store.

One person on Twitter joked: "Today is the day that Balham hit peak Balham; Pret is here."

Another shared their frustration, saying: "Can't believe Balham finally getting a Pret the month after I move away."

While one person bemoaned another coffee shop being present, saying: "Could of put a much better shop at that site instead of yet another coffee shop! Just ridiculous!"

For Clapham Southers with Pret coffee subscriptions, it can only be good news – as a 17-minute walk away from Nightingale Walk, Balham Pret A Manger is officially our closest branch.
