Wandsworth en route for 1,000 electric vehicle charge points as EV overtakes diesel in Europe
Wandsworth is on track to have 1,000 electric vehicle charging points around the borough, with work to install more than 200 further sockets underway.
By the end of March another 215 charging sockets will be installed, taking the total number of electric car charge points in Wandsworth to 936.
The new charging points follow a record month of EV sales which saw electric overtake diesel in Europe.
Wandsworth has one of the most comprehensive network of charge points of any local authority in the UK.
Fitted primarily to lampposts to reduce pavement clutter and keep footpaths free for pedestrians, the charge points draw power from zero carbon sources of energy.
Transport spokesman John Locker said: "We are busy putting in place the key infrastructure needed to help our residents who want to make the move from petrol and diesel to electric.
"The rapid growth in the number of charging points we have supported in Wandsworth means that running an electric vehicle is now a realistic choice for local people.
"We will continue to invest in this eco-friendly technology as part of our efforts to improve the borough's air quality and also to help us deliver our ambitious climate change targets."
