Wandsworth Council has introduced a gardening competition in which residents can win vouchers worth up to £100.

In an announcement of the borough-wide 'Housing Gardening Competition' today (Friday, April 21), the council said it was "encouraging our green-fingered residents to take part" and revealed financial incentives worth green-fingered locals upping their gardening game for.

Categories of the competition - Best community garden, Best private garden, and Best container/balcony garden - recognise the range of green spaces that residents in the borough can apply their gardening prowess to.

Prizes of £100 will be awarded to the winner of each category, with contestants who win second and third place in each category entitled to £50 and £25.

Criteria on which participants will be assessed include design, use of space, plant variety and cleanliness. The health of a garden and its demonstration of sustainable gardening practises will also be in the judges' consideration.

The judging panel will comprise councillors and council officers.

To enter Wandsworth's Housing Gardening Competition, send photos of your garden to [email protected] by September 1, 2023.

Winners will be announced in the December issue of Homelife.
