PRESENTED BY IRRELEVANT THEATRE

BEEP. BEEP. CRACK. CRACK. SPLASH. SPLASH. Welcome on board. Save a sea turtle while save yourself.

I should have stopped it. I should have spoken up. I should have saved them. I should have…

A boy is bullied to death. A baby is dying. A sea turtle is suffocating. The world is sinking…

Can you fix it?

Wu Yuan, his name means there is nowhere he cannot reach. Yet his best friend was bullied and he did not prevent it from happening.

Leppa, her name means boat in native islander's language. Yet she is a boat that never sails out.

Rowan, this is not even her real name. Yet she accepts the name so that she can amuse someone and run away from her past.

They all turn away when it's time to face it. Yet, they meet at Cemporna, a peninsula whose name means the perfect access to heaven. They are saving a sea turtle. They are saving themselves.

The play questions the western-centric presentation of climate change and performative/tokenism in marine wildlife conservation. The play also discusses the impact of capitalism on indigenous lives and local ecology.

Created by an all-Asian company, the play approaches White Gaze and Orientalism with awareness and lived experience.

Developed with D/deaf actors. BSL is an integrated part of the story.
