Shameless! Festival: Emily Ratajowski in Conversation
Battersea Arts Centre
UNTIL Saturday 27th November
Author and actor Emily Ratajkowski joins WOW – Women of the World Founder Jude Kelly CBE at Shameless! Festival for an unmissable conversation on her new book My Body, a deeply honest and personal exploration of what it means to be a woman today.
Join Emily for this very special evening as she reflects on her ground-breaking book, what it means to be a woman in a world that consumes, commodifies and violates women's bodies, and the contempt that often accompanies taking back ownership of the narrative.
She will discuss the reach and power of feminist thought, the #MeToo movement, and the blurred lines between consent and abuse; a subject explored in her powerful book of essays My Body.
This candid and deeply courageous conversation will take place as part of the inaugural Shameless! Festival of Activism against Sexual Violence. Produced by SHaME and WOW – Women of the World, this much needed festival will revolutionise conversations around sexual violence; burst open inherited ideas of shame; and empower everyone to create a collective, transformative shift within society to say enough is enough, sexual violence must end.
This event will address sensitive and difficult subjects. Please use your discretion if attending with people under the age of 18.
Emily Ratajkowski is an acclaimed model and actress, an engaged political progressive, a formidable entrepreneur, a global social media phenomenon, and now, a writer. Rocketing to world fame at age twenty-one, Ratajkowski sparked both praise and furor with the provocative display of her body as an unapologetic statement of feminist empowerment. The subsequent evolution in her thinking about our culture's commodification of women is the subject of this book.
Jude Kelly is the Founder and Director of The WOW Foundation, which runs WOW – Women of the World Festivals and the former Artistic Director of London's Southbank Centre. Jude Kelly has directed over 200 theatre and opera productions, founded a range of arts institutions and has commissioned and supported the work of thousands of artists across all genres.
Shameless! Festival is produced by SHaME (Sexual Harms and Medical Encounters) and WOW – Women of the World, and is funded by The Wellcome Trust.
