Clapham Picturehouse offers 30% off memberships until 18 June

Clapham Picturehouse Membership Discount Deal

Clapham Picturehouse is offering a 30% discount on memberships to celebrate its post-lockdown re-opening with a schedule of films that includes A Quiet Place II, Ammonite and Nomadland.

Built in 1910 upon former horse stables, Venn Street's Picturehouse has been a staple venue amongst local cinemagoers for nearly thirty years – its screens having ousted the green-cloth tables of Clapham's snooker hall in 1992.

Picturehouse was forced to temporarily close all of its 26 sites in October after circumstances of the pandemic made the cinema industry "unviable". Its parent company Cineworld closed 127 cinemas in the UK, citing delays in the release of big-budget films like the latest James Bond film, No Time to Die, as leaving them ultimately with no income.

If our social reunion is set to remain, cinemas face further challenges. Before coronavirus, thanks to on-demand streaming subscriptions, cinema outings had started looking relatively expensive. During a year where Netflix binges became government endorsed – all but legislated for as our civic duty – the traditional cinema experience now seems unusually immersive.

The shared element of watching a film on the big screen stands out as a reason to re-engage with 'Event Viewing', and with 30 per cent off, the price of a Clapham Picturehouse memberships drops from £62 to £43.40. Included in that price is four free tickets, £3 off film tickets and amongst other cute perks (think previews and priority booking), money off food and drink.

The discount offer is available until 18 June.
