Fences cordoning off Clapham Common to be removed

The temporary fences that cordon off large parts of Clapham Common will be removed by 18 June.

Fences erected in September last year have barred people from the north-east side of the Common, a stretch which from Long Pond to the cycle path opposite Cedars Road is roughly a quarter of Clapham Common.

Used for events such as SW1 and Winterville, the battered patch required new grass be planted and its soil aerated.

The Clapham Society announced the removal date on Twitter this morning.

In a Tweet, it said: "Here's some good news. The fence around large parts of the Common will be coming down by the 18th June.

(Well, most of them will – the area near the skateboard park still needs a bit more work.)".
