Clapham Common's Winterville festival cancelled
Clapham Common's Winterville festival has been cancelled for the third year in a row as organisers withdrew their application – but the reason why remains a mystery.
Winterville organisers initially applied for permission in 2021 after a run of cancelllations.
The first cancellation in 2019 was done as organisers wanted to take a break, then in 2020 the event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The event is usually open to all age groups and showcases music, films, plays, interactive games, food, drink and markets. Free tickets and discounts are available for local residents and it is free to enter for under 16s.
In 2018, £70,000 was levied from Winterville for the Clapham Common Park Investment Levy.
This money was spent on projects such as more bins, replacing perimeter fencing, restoring the paddling pool and upgrading Battersea Rise Playground.
A Lambeth Council spokesperson said: "Winterville has not run at Clapham Common since 2018, and will not run this year either.
"The organisers had initially applied for permission in 2021, but then withdrew their application."
The Local Democracy Reporting Service has asked why this was and was unable to reach Winterville organisers.
