Red weather warning issued for London

A red weather warning is now in force in London as Storm Eunice, one of the worst storms in 30 years, hits the UK.

The Met Office upgraded warning London to its most severe weather warning shortly after 4am today (Friday, 18 February and warned that between 10am 10am to 3pm "flying debris could result in danger to life".

Ahead of when Storm Eunice hits London residents have been advised to stay inside and travel only where absolutely necessary.

20:43: To leave you in peace with our final tweet of the day, Clapham Nub News said: "Important reminder from @MPSKnightsHill that an amber weather warning is still in place. If you're out in Clapham tonight, it's still not balmy-chomping-strawberries-watching-Wimbledon kind of weather. Let's be fun, not dumb."

20:42: Before we log off, a final message the Knight's Hill Police team shared on Twitter at 7:43pm said: "Your team are out tonight on night time economy patrols in Clapham. The weather is still atrocious. Please take care if you intend to go out and be aware that the met office has issued at present an amber weather warning."

16:43: SWR and Network Rail rule out return of train services. They said: "While we are working hard to try to restore some services later tonight, we cannot guarantee any trains will run for the rest of the day and customers should make travel arrangements if possible."

15:39: All SWR trains suspended as Storm Eunice disrupts travel.

14:19: Local band Fresh Arms has posted on Instagram to confirm tonight's gig at The Bread & Roses is still going ahead.

13:07:Clapham Junction station evacuated in Storm Eunice chaos.

12:32: We're hearing reports that Clapham Junction has been evacuated and all trains cancelled. Update to follow.

12:18: A tree has fallen across Battersea Park Road and is likely to cause disruption to bus routes including the 345 and 49.

11:54: Eamonn Ives who witnessed the tree fall said: "Tree down on the A205 at Clapham Common. A Ford Focus managed to limp away with a dented bonnet. Stay safe folks!"

11:51: A tree has been uprooted on the A205 (The Avenue) across Clapham Common

11:30: One positive message from The Clapham Grand who tweeted: "Blasting out our fave wind and stormy weather based anthems in the office today to soundtrack #StormEunice! Regarding tonights @BongosBingo, we are monitoring the situ, but it looks like it'll have 'blown' itself out by then and we can crack on with fun times as normal".

11:12: Lambeth parks team has cancelled all grass football pitches on Clapham Common this weekend due to Storm Eunice.

11:10: Clapham Common Parkrun is cancelled tomorrow (Saturday, February 19).

10:01: Royal Trinity Hospice has closed its shops to ensure staff and volunteers can stay indoors. You can still head to their online shop.

09:44:Clapham Books has said the shop will not be open to customers today.

08:58: Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has said on Twitter: "I urge all Londoners to stay at home, do not take risks, and do not travel unless it is absolutely essential. City Hall is in close contact with key agencies across the capital and our city is as prepared as possible for any potential impacts of Storm Eunice."
