Wandsworth residents can bin bulky rubbish for free in the borough's 'Mega Skip Day'

Wandsworth will host another of its Mega Skip Days this week for local residents to bin their bulky waste for free.

Between 9am and midday on Saturday February 26, residents can bring anything from sofas to mattresses and other large furniture items to one of five locations in the borough where mega skips will be placed.

After high demand at previous Mega Skip Days the borough has now organised nine of skips across the borough and limited the number of items each household can dispose of to a maximum of six. One black bin bag is equal to one sofa, one mattress, so on and so forth.

Wandsworth has reminded residents that the skips are for household waste only, not business waste, and that they can bring any of the following:

  • Carpet
  • Computers and IT equipment
  • Furniture - e.g. mattresses, sofas, tables etc...
  • Microwaves and small electrical appliances
  • Batteries (but no car batteries)
  • Bicycles
  • Cardboard
  • Black bags
Do not bring the following:
  • No hazardous objects or dangerous materials: such as sharp objects, needles, dangerous chemicals, plasterboard, flammable liquids and asbestos
  • Paint
  • Concrete
  • Car batteries
  • Cement, rubble or hardcore
  • Plasterboard
  • Engine oil/cooking oil
  • Fridges or other large electrical appliances

Councillor Steffi Sutters, Cabinet Member for Community Services and Open Spaces said: "You said you wanted us to bring back Mega Skip, day so we're running it again this February so you can have a clear out of all those bulky items you've got at home.

"Last time we doubled the number of skips. This time we've got even more locations with additional skips at four more places across Wandsworth.

"So please do come along and make use of our mega skips."

Skips will be at the following locations:
