Clapham: All you need to know as the Ultra Low Emission Zone arrives
The new Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) has spread into areas of Clapham - here's all you need to know so you don't end up with a big fine.
As of today (October 25), the existing central London zone has expanded to cover parts of Clapham, Battersea, Wandsworth and Putney - anywhere within the North and South Circular Roads.
The Ultra Low Emission Zone was designed to help clean up London's air.
To make sure that you don't get stung with an unnecessary fine of £160, we've got all of the information for you here.
Where is the new ULEZ zone?
As previously mentioned, anywhere within the North and South Circular Roads will be part of the new ULEZ zone. You can see it more closely within the map in this article.
If traveling around Clapham, your most likely entry points will be on the A24 near Clapham Common or on the A24 near Clapham Common.
These rules will apply for every hour of every day, apart from Christmas.
How much is the ULEZ fine?
You could face a fine of up to £160 (reduced to £80 if paid within 14 days) if you don't comply with the rules.
Cars that don't comply with the standards have to pay a £12.50 charge, which they can do on the TfL website.
Which cars do not need to pay the ULEZ charge?
Cars and vans that do not need to pay are:
- Petrol with Euro 4 engines. These are generally those first registered with the DVLA after 2005.
- Diesel with Euro 6 engines. These are generally those first registered with the DVLA after September 2015.
- Motorcycles will need to meet Euro 3 standards to comply.
Drivers can use Transport for London's online checking tool to see if their vehicle is exempt from the charge or will be required to pay.
Using the ULEZ zone does not make you exempt from paying the congestion charge too which is in central London. This costs £15 unless electric or hydrogen fuel cell powered.
