Who Cares: Staged at Omnibus Theatre for one night only

Sitting at the back of the bus, skipping the lunch queue and skiving lessons. At school Nicole, Jade and Connor are just like everybody else. But when they get home, things are very different.

The "emotionally raw and theatrically slick" play Who Cares hits Omnibus Theatre tomorrow for a one-off performance guaranteed to leave a mark on its Clapham audience.

Following its premier to critical acclaim in 2016, Who Cares has been gathering fresh praise at every turn since embarking on its national tour in September.

As a play that examines our care system, the impact of austerity and what happens when a child becomes parent, it is fitting that Who Cares was also in December 2017 performed at the House of Lords to MPs and policy makers.

Writer Matt Woodhead adapted the script from the real-life testimonies of young carers in Salford – 200 hours of interviews with four young people caring for their parents under the radar of their friends, schoolteachers and local authorities.

Speaking on the subject matter of Who Cares, the playwright and co-artistic director of award-winning theatre company LUNG said: "Sharing the inspirational stories of young carers from Salford with audiences across the UK is a real privilege and a vital part of the campaign to raise awareness of this, often hidden, issue.

"With each venue we're able to perform in we'll educate more people about the plight of young carers and hopefully recruit them as advocates for better funding and support for these incredible young people."

Venues were chosen with the express purpose to present Who Cares in areas of deprivation, where the need for support services is strongest and where there are low levels of engagement in live theatre.
