Clapham Junction: Horrific eye-gauging incident on train prompts police appeal

An appeal to identify a man after a serious assault on board a train to Clapham Junction has been launched by British Transport Police.
At 8.50pm on Monday, October 11 a man tried to enter an occupied toilet on a train from Gatwick Airport to Clapham Junction, banging on the door and attempting to open it.
After its occupant left, the man entered the toilet.
A few seconds later the man opened the door of the toilet and an altercation broke out between him and the toilet's previous occupant.
The man headbutted the victim, who fell to the floor, and began gouging his eyes.
Other passengers intervened and separated the two men.
The victim attended hospital to receive treatment for eye damage.
Officers believe the man in the images may have information which could help their investigation.

A spokesperson For British Transport Police said: "Officers investigating a serious assault on board a train from Gatwick to Clapham Junction are today releasing these images in connection.
"At 8.50pm on Monday 11 October a man was trying to enter an occupied toilet on the train.
"He attempted to open it and was banging on the door.
"A man came out of the toilet and the other man entered. A few seconds later the man opened the door of the toilet and an altercation broke out between them.
"The man headbutted the victim, who then fell to the floor and he pressed his finger into his eyes. Other passengers intervened and separated them.
"The victim attended hospital for treatment to damage to his eyes.
Officers believe the man in the images may have information which could help their investigation.
