Lambeth local elections
Lambeth local elections

The candidates for Lambeth's local elections on May 5 have been revealed. A total of 63 seats are available across 25 wards in the borough.

Labour currently controls the council. It won 57 out of 63 seats at the previous election in 2018. The Greens are the main opposition with five councillors across the borough. The Conservatives have one councillor.

Labour will be hoping to hold on to all its seats this time around after a chaotic four years. The party went through three different leaders and was caught-up in scandals involving a number of councillors. Most recently Philip Normal, ex-Labour member for Oval, was forced to resign after racist and transphobic posts he had made on Twitter resurfaced.

The Greens will be seeking to make gains across the borough, particularly in Herne Hill and Gipsy Hill where they have previously done well. Tim Briggs, Conservative member for Clapham Common and the only Tory on the council, will be aiming to hold on to his seat that he won by a tiny margin at the last election. Meanwhile, the Liberal Democrats will be hoping to do better than in 2018 when they won no seats.

Elections for Lambeth Council are held every four years. The last election took place on May 3 2018. Voters will be able to cast their ballots on May 5 and the results will be revealed on the following day.  The full list of candidates for Lambeth Council's 2022 elections can be found below.
