Local home care provider takes home award for its work supporting heroic frontline carers
Bluebird Care Wandsworth, Clapham & Streatham has won 'The Home Care Employer Award' at the National Great British Care Awards.
These prestigious awards celebrate excellent care throughout the UK, paying homage to providers who have gone above and beyond within their field.
Of the nine home care providers shortlisted from thousands of applications across the country, Bluebird Care Wandsworth, Clapham & Streatham stood out for its holistic and positive approach to staff wellbeing.
Judges at the national finals, which took place at Birmingham's International Convention Centre, were particularly impressed by the home care provider's focus on supporting Care Assistants in all aspects of their work.
The panel heard how the company's ethos of acting as a trusted member of the family to those in its care also applies to all its care staff. From offering benefits support and legal advocacy for its Care Assistants in crisis when needed, to providing double sick pay to those who contracted Covid whilst working during the pandemic, the home care provider was praised for its recognition that a positive management environment promotes excellent care behaviour.
The team at Bluebird Care Wandsworth, Clapham & Streatham told judges that supporting and recognising the team for their hard work cultivates a sense of confidence and initiative among colleagues.
Care staff at the local provider regularly go above and beyond to provide their customers with acts of kindness, such as cooking and delivering meals to a customer who was unable to leave their sixth floor flat when the lift was broken and accessing a locked property to rescue a customer in significant distress.
Bryce Jones, who joined Bluebird Care Wandsworth, Clapham & Streatham as a Care Manager during the pandemic, was so impressed by the provider's approach to colleague wellbeing that he nominated the team for an award without their knowledge.\
His application described how: "I started working for Bluebird Care Wandsworth, Clapham and Streatham in April 2021 and very quickly realised after having worked for a number of other providers this company truly cares for and treats every individual as a member of their family. This is the first provider I have worked for where they are not afraid to invest, change and put their staff first."
Alice Cerilli, Business director at Bluebird Care, said: "We are absolutely delighted and very honoured to win this award! Our philosophy is that only great teams truly provide great care, and we hope that this national recognition will show that to be true.
"This award will be celebrated by each and every member of our frontline and office care team, who are the beating heart of all our successes at Bluebird Care Wandsworth, Clapham & Streatham."
