Excitement is building for the annual Clapham Christmas Lights Switch On, set to transform Clapham Old Town into a hub of seasonal cheer on Friday evening (December 3).

The majestic flying Billy Goat will kickstart Christmas by switching on the Christmas lights with the help of local resident, the legendary star of stage and screen, Miriam Margolyes.

Miriam's iconic roles and cracking wit have made her one of the Britain's best loved actors and personalities. A magical performance as Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter film series and her BAFTA-winning take on Mrs Mingott in The Age of Innocence were very nearly upstaged by her superb appearance on the popular 'Off Menu' podcast.

Hosted by comedians James Acaster and Ed Gamble, 'Off Menu' invites guests to share their all-time favourite dishes.

Ever faithful to her Clapham residency, Miriam sang the praises of two local restaurants you will undoubtedly know and with equal ardour to Miriam praise.

Parents are invited to bring their little ones along to Omnibus Theatre between 3pm and 5pm on the day to make their own decorations with the help of a local artist.

With a woolly hat donned, enjoy festive treats, mulled wine, carol singing and performances from a host of brilliant local school choirs at the Christmas Lights Switch on in The Polygon from 5:30pm.
