Miriam Margolyes selected her dream menu on the Off Menu podcast hosted by James Acaster and Ed Gamble

National treasure and Clapham resident Miriam Margolyes OBE last week revealed two of her favourite places to eat and any local with a sweet tooth will know her dessert spot all too well.

Famed for her appearances in Blackadder and a Bafta-winning portrayal of Mrs Mingott in The Age of Innocence, in recent years Miriam played Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films and voiced the characters of Aunt Sponge and Glowworm in fellow Clapham resident, Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach.

Appearing on 'Off Menu', a podcast hosted by comedians James Acaster and Ed Gamble in which guests share their all-time favourite dishes, Miriam, 80, waxed lyrical about Nardulli, insisting that Acaster and Gamble visit the Pavement's ice cream parlour opposite Clapham Common.

She said: "They make the best ice cream I've ever tasted.

"I like the coffee ice cream and the chocolate ice cream. They make a whole plethora of different flavours, but those are my favourite, so I would like a mixture of coffee and chocolate ice cream from Nardulli."

When asked whether she would prefer her ice cream in a tub or a cone, Miriam added: "Well, I'd like it in a pantechnicon."

"A what?" her hosts asked.

"A lorry."

"You'll love it, I promise you. And you tell them I sent you."

Off screen, Miriam is in a relationship with Heather Sutherland. Though the couple divide their time between homes in Clapham, Kent, Australia and Tuscany, the next food spot Miriam leapt to praising was the family-run restaurant, Cher Thai, also in Clapham.

She said: "It's just a small place, husband and wife. Oh the food's delicious. Delicious."

Elsewhere in the Off Menu podcast episode, Miriam discussed her new memoir 'This Much Is True', her love of cheese sandwiches and an upcoming trip to Scotland for a production with Alan Cumming.

Check out the plethora of flavours at Nardulli and the husband and wife team behind Cher Thai.
