Woman, 28, killed walking across Wandsworth Bridge

A woman has died following a car crash on Wandsworth Bridge.

The 28-year-old was walking across the bridge yesterday (Wednesday, March 16) when she was fatally injured in a collision with a Mercedes.

Police were called at 10:10pm and along with the Air Ambulance and London Ambulance Service attended the scene.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:19pm. Her next of kin have been informed.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries into the collision, meanwhile detectives from the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage of the incident.

Detective Constable Jenny Burr investigating said: "Wandsworth Bridge is a popular and busy route across the Thames and it is likely that people either witnessed the collision, or may have dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation.

"I am appealing to those people to get in touch. Our thoughts are with her family."

Wandsworth Bridge was closed to traffic following the collision but has since reopened.
