Clapham clings to a summer climate

We've had a strange sort of summer weather-wise. Short sunny spells in June gave way to thunderstorms and heavy rain that flooded roads all around Clapham and Battersea.

Many people opted against travelling abroad to avoid either the price, risk or faff of pandemic requirements. But, wonderful as British scenery is, the impact of shivering on a damp staycation inevitably hits home in January.

Fortunately, the downhill march to short, winter days has been delayed.

With two days of scorching sunshine in Clapham starting tomorrow, this is sun cream and Mr Whippy weather.

Here is the forecast for Tuesday September 7 to Sunday September 12 according to the latest Met Office forecast.

Tuesday (September 7) in Clapham

By all means keep your eyes peeled for a cloud but you'll be hard pressed to find one. Expect highs of 29 degrees Celsius at around 4pm to taper away slowly throughout the evening. After 7pm the temperature will drop to a balmy 26 degrees Celsius, which with light winds will make for a perfect Tuesday evening on Clapham Common.

Wednesday (September 8) in Clapham

Sunshine from dusk to dawn again in Clapham will spice up hump-day. The highest temperatures of the day will come slightly earlier, reaching 28 degrees Celsius by 3pm. Though some stronger winds will blow, the 'feels like' temperature will dip only slightly from the real temperature.

Thursday (September 9) in Clapham

All good things must come to an end, something Thursday's weather will serve as a reminder of. Joggers and dog walkers up with the larks may be caught out in light showers. The sun may on occasion poke its head out from behind clouds but the glorious weather will be gone.

Friday (September 10) in Clapham

A cloudy day is forecast with heavy showers expected by lunchtime. With temperatures of 21 degrees Celsius, Friday is certainly not hot, but for the first week of September it could definitely be worse.

Saturday & Sunday (September 11 & 12) in Clapham

If you were hoping the sunshine would return over the weekend, unfortunately it's unlikely. Despite no 29 degree heat, both Saturday and Sunday look to be perfectly pleasant with drier, brighter conditions.
