Papi's Pickles comes to Clapham this Sunday
If September came as a surprise to you too (September already… really?), we have just the thing to keep your summer serotonin levels boosted.
With a programme of theatre that single-handedly makes Autumn far more palatable, the Omnibus Theatre will very kindly let Papi's Pickles delight our real palates with its pop-up South Indian Brunch coming to Clapham Common North Side this weekend.
A social enterprise that supports Sri Lankan migrants, Papi's Pickles uses local and seasonal ingredients to make high quality South Indian and Tamil cuisine.
Between its street food stall at markets and hugely popular private catering, Papi's Pickles also manages to take the taste of Southern India to wonderful venues across London for one-off events.
Bringing its pop-up brunch to the Omnibus Theatre this Sunday (September 5), Papi's Pickles is guaranteed to titillate Clapham's taste buds with signature dishes from Tamil cuisine.
Instead of over-priced Avo on Toast, for £37 diners will enjoy four courses, with fish, vegetarian or vegan options available to choose at ticket purchase. Brimming with flavour, from delicate saffron in the Biryani drizzled with pudina chutney to Papi's pineapple & green chilli pickle served for fresh Coconut and Besan Squares, the menu is truly astounding.
The Sri Lankan Civil War forced hundreds of thousands of people to seek asylum in Europe. With finding employment a huge challenge for refugees, particularly women, many of those who relocated to Britain found few opportunities for work.
In 2013 Abi, a founder of Papi's Pickles, met many women stuck in a persistent struggle for work, carrying a strong sense of loss and isolation.
Cooking, food and community are indelibly intertwined and coupled with a spike in demand for high quality South Indian and Sri Lankan Cuisine across London, Papi's Pickles was born.
Since 2015, the social enterprise has recruited and trained over 25 women. Paid the London Living Wage, these women have had access to income, support, English Language learning opportunities, food safety certification and confidence-building opportunities, all while enjoying the camaraderie – and community – that being in a team brings.
