Accident investigation work underway after serious crash in Clapham South

Accident investigation work is being undertaken on Balham Hill after a serious crash which took place in the early hours of this morning (Monday, October 4).

Clapham Nub News reported the accident and resulting road closures in its Breakfast Briefing.

Balham Hill (the A24) was closed in both directions from Clapham South Tube Station to Alderbrook Road at 6am.

Cameras showed the A24 re-opened to Northbound traffic, however it has been closed again and accident investigation work is underway to determine what happened.

The AA reported the accident at 4:57am.

In its most recent traffic report, it said: "Road closed and queueing traffic due to accident investigation work on A24 Balham Hill both ways from Clapham South station to Alderbrook Road.

"Closed since just before 06:00 this morning, cameras did show Northbound had re-opened but has been closed again."

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at approximately 05:35hrs on Monday, 4 October to reports of a collision involving a car and a moped in Balham Hill, SW12.

"Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and the rider of the moped, a man – no further details, was taken to hospital for treatment; condition awaits.

"The car stopped at the scene.

"No arrests; enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.

"Anyone who can assist is asked to call police on 101 or tweet @MetCC and quote CAD1037/4Oct."

A respite from the petrol queues and solid traffic on Nightingale Lane means roads around Balham Hill are far less congested to use as alternative travel routes.

There is also still a good service operating on the Northern Line.
