£10 per hour, 25 hours per week

About the Opportunity at Omnibus Theatre

Omnibus Theatre is seeking an efficient, reliable, personable and committed person to develop the Café Bar food offer. This is a part-time, shift pattern role which will extend depending on increased activity, working alongside the existing Omnibus Café/Bar team.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years' experience in food preparation.

About Omnibus

Omnibus is an award-winning theatre housed in a converted Victorian library overlooking Clapham Common, London SW4. The building is home to a 90-seat studio theatre, café/bar and two performance and rehearsal spaces which host a diverse and high-quality programme of work. Our iconic building is central to the work we create, with the building innovatively re-imagined for different performances including site-responsive and promenade productions. Our vision is to be a space for arts and ideas, connections and discoveries.

We have recently redesigned the internal layout in order to improve the theatre facilities. This includes relocating the café/bar to the front of the building with street access via our terrace. This creates new opportunities for the operation which we want to explore.

Bar and catering requirements

The new Omnibus Theatre café/bar is a bright airy space overlooking Clapham Common which operates to serve theatre patrons in the evening and all-day Saturdays and Sundays.

The café bar is fully licensed and has a simple food offer which we are keen to develop further. It operates as a friendly meeting place coffee shop and bar during the day turning into a bar at night for theatre goers and local residents. The theatre is busy during the day with rehearsals and hires and there are performances most nights of the week. The café space also acts as an art gallery and a small performance space for live music. There are also various spaces which we hire out for conferences, meetings and events which provides catering.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include:

• Welcoming and serving customers
• Operating the card machines
• Maintaining a clean and hygienic working environment to current legislative H&S levels and ensuring the bar/cafe is clean, tidy and set up in readiness for public use

Responsible for the following duties:

• Training casual bar staff to serve and prepare food
• Ordering stock
• Maintaining required H & S documentation and records
• Research and sourcing local suppliers to capitalise on the potential of partnerships with local businesses
• Developing new food lines and catering menus

Essential

• 2 year or more experience preparing & serving food in a café/ restaurant / bar environment
• A passion for food
• Energy, drive and commitment
• Excellent customer interaction
• Good organisational skills
• Attention to detail
