Video footage has shown a meteor flying over South-West London and the South of England on Monday evening.

Around 8:01pm on Monday 9th January, footage from many residents of South-West London, including via doorbell videos, has shown the bright meteor flying across the night's sky.

The meteor was described by many as having been a huge white and red ball flying across the sky and much larger than a normal aeroplane had many doubting what they saw and took to Twitter to clarify that others had just witnessed the same thing.

The Met Office put out a Tweet saying that they had seen reports of the meteor and put out requests for people to send in the videos they had taken of the meteor.

Videos were sent in from London, Wiltshire, Somerset, Hertfordshire, the West Midlands amongst many other places across the South of England showing people witnessing the bright object careering across the sky.

@AllLondonCabbie tweeted: "Massive bright/orange meteor over London. Never seen anything like it."

@GraceWaring22 added: "I saw it appx 8pm in Blackheath huge white ball, red surround, long trail of shooting stars type trail, couldn't believe my eyes. Beautiful. If I was elsewhere or looking away would have missed it. Amazing."
