Clapham Common Parkrun expects to cancel Saturday's event

Clapham Common Parkrun expects to cancel Saturday's event as it has too few volunteers for the run to go ahead.

Volunteers are fundamental to all parkrun events being able to take place, and while parkrun are adamant there should be no pressure for parkrunners to volunteer, the event can't go ahead without them.

After Covid-19 restrictions prompted a lengthy hiatus from Clapham Common Parkrun, the easing of pandemic restrictions saw the event return on July 24. Ahead of every Saturday run since then however, a recurring problem of low volunteer numbers has put the local parkrun in jeopardy.

On Instagram today (Thursday August 12) Clapham Common Parkrun said: "We are expecting to cancel Saturday's event due to a lack of volunteers.

"If you'd like parkrun to continue on Clapham Common, please help us by volunteering. Key volunteer roles required for the event to go ahead are:

2 x timekeeper

1 x finish tokens

4 x marshal

6 x barcode scanner**

1 x close down*

3 x funnel manager**

1 x number checker

1 x token sorter*

  • can run
  • *can run if speedy (sub 22 mins)

"Send us an email with your barcode ID and your chosen role. No experience necessary, we'll teach you what to do on the day."
