Clapham Common Parkrun host 100th event for Wandsworth Food Bank

Since parkrun returned to Clapham Common in July, hundreds of local residents have partaken, both contributing to and benefiting from the sense of community each event brims with.

With such an ethos, it is fitting then that Clapham Common parkrun will celebrate its 100th event tomorrow (Saturday, September 25) by co-ordinating donations to Wandsworth Food Bank.

The local food bank started by St Mark's Church on Battersea Rise in 2013 continued to deliver emergency food supplies during the pandemic, last year delivering 11,336 parcels to people in the community - 40% of whom were children.

Almost eighteen months after pandemic restrictions forced welcome centres to close, face-to-face food bank centres across Wandsworth opened for the first time on Monday (September 20).

This means that as well as providing immediate practical help in terms of emergency food and essential toiletries, there is a chance for people to chat with trained volunteers about what help is available for the difficulties they are facing.

Items most needed are:

  • Tinned vegetables & pulses
  • Tinned potatoes
  • Tinned soup
  • UHT milk (Full-fat or Semi-skimmed)
  • UHT non-dairy milk
  • Tinned fruit
  • Rice (Basmati or Quick-cook)
  • Pasta sauce
  • Instant coffee
  • Handsoap
